Saturday 9

Saturday 9: A Summer Place (1960)

1) This song highlights the soundtrack from the movie A Summer Place, which is about two teenage lovers named Molly and Johnny. Did you ever have a youthful summer romance? If so, what was his/her name? I had a summer romance. His name was Danny. We are still friends.

2) The "summer place" of the song/movie is a resort along the Maine coast. What "summer place" are you day dreaming about this winter morning? Dauphin Island ... I love it out there.

3) In the movie, Johnny was played by Troy Donahue, who is remembered as nice looking but not terribly talented. Can you think of one of today's actors who you could describe as "nice looking but not terribly talented?" Brendan Fraser

4) Molly is played by Sandra Dee, a perky blonde who was one of 1960's bankable movie stars. Two other blondes -- Doris Day and Debbie Reynolds -- joined Sandra Dee in the Top 10. The only brunette to sell a lot of movie tickets that year was Elizabeth Taylor. Do you believe men find blondes more attractive than brunettes or redheads? Men tend to look past hair color these days... but usually it is more toward blondes than us brunettes and it takes a special breed of man to tackle a redhead.

5) "A Summer Place" was by far the best-selling record of 1960. Also in 1960, two brothers in Ypsilanti, Michigan, opened a pizza place called Dominck's. That was the beginning of a chain now known as Domino's. What's the last food you had delivered to your front door? Dominos Pizza. I love their pizza with sausage and onions.

6) In 1965, one of the brothers sold his share of the business to his brother for cash so he could buy a VW Beetle. Tell us about a time you had buyer's remorse. I bought one of those stupid plug in things that are supposed to keep roaches, mice, and other pests. It didn't work. It cost over $20 for one. I took the thing back got my money bought some chocolate.

7) In 1960, novelist Ernest Hemingway returned to the United States from Spain and settled in Ketchum, Idaho. Tell us about the last book you read. Was it a novel or non-fiction? Last book I read was probably a Harry Potter book I was really pissed off at Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that I threw it down and swore to not get that damn involved in a series again.... and I haven't.

8) In December, 1960, John F. Kennedy, Jr. was baptized in the Georgetown University Chapel. His godparents were Charles and Martha Bartlett, the couple who originally introduced young John's famous parents. Do you have godparents? I wish.
9) Random question: You're at dinner with a married couple who begins to fight. Would you intercede and try to make peace? Or would you just sit back stay out of it? I would stay out of it, politely get up, thank them, and leave.

  1. Welcome to Saturday 9! I don't believe you've played before. Happy to have you here.

#4 -- If you know any redheads, recommend Bruce Springsteen's song, "Red Headed Woman." It's a little explicit, but it's quite the ode to those fiery girls.

    1. I am new! Nice to meet you.

I know a few fiery redheads. I will recommend that song. Thanks so much for stopping by. Take care. See ya next Saturday!!!!

  2. I haven't had Dominos Pizza in a really long time. I hear is has improved.

  3. Now I am really curious as what upset you so in that last Harry Potter book. It wasn't one of my favorites, either - and welcome to Saturday 9. Hope you enjoy playing along. We're all generally nice people. :-)

  4. I'm one of those fiery redheads. ;-)

  5. Oh, you are right about Brendan Frasier...though the last time I saw a picture of him I'm not sure you could call him particularly nice looking any longer.

  6. I'd love to live on an Island all summer long. You, the waves, and the sunsets. Sunrises? I have three fiery red headed daughters, and you are right about that.. hehehe

SHOW SOME LOVE!!!! Comments are appreciate and welcomed. Please be respectful.
