Martha's 31 Days of Horror Day 6: Vincent Price

Lots of people say their heroes of horror are Lugosi, Karloff, Carpenter, Craven, Englund, Hodder... for me there is only one name that brings both HORROR and HERO into my mind. The man who first captured my heart and attention through his remarkable presence on screen... the late, great Vincent Price.

Master of the Macabre, Vincent Price starred in MANY films over the years but here are a list of some of my favorites...

House of Wax
The Ten Commandments (Yes the one with Charlton Heston)
House on Haunted Hill
The Tingler
The Bat
Pit and the Pendulum
Tales of Terror
Tower of London
The Raven
The Haunted Palace
Twice-Told Tales
The Comedy of Terrors
The Last Man on Earth (aka I AM LEGEND before Will Smith)
The Masque of the Red Death
The Tomb of Ligeia
Witchfinder General aka Conquerer Worm
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe
Dr. Phibes Rises Again
Theatre of Blood
The Monster Club
Vincent by Tim Burton (the voice of Narrator)
Michael Jackson's Thriller (Voices the Rap)
Edward Scissorhands

With an iconic voice & laugh topped with his foreboding on screen/stage presence, Vincent Price could chill you, delight you... make you laugh, cry, and scream all with the delivery of his words and the stare he was famous for. All of his Edgar Allan Poe work was suburb. He always seemed to be masterful of Poe's context and portrayed each character with unique vision and style. His work with William Castle is some of my favorite especially House on Haunted Hill.

Tragically we lost Vincent on October 25th, 1993 (2 days before my birthday) and since then never has there been a man who could fill the shoes of such a legend.

Thank you.
